Current Fans Celebrate Playoff Clinch After 2-0 Win

Kansas City Current fans secured a third straight playoff berth Sunday after the team defeated Racing Louisville FC, 2-0. The win guarantees the club another postseason run, a milestone that brought dozens of supporters to the area outside CPKC Stadium for a collective viewing party.

The match concluded the regular season with a focus on securing a spot in the tournament. For many attendees, the outcome resolved a period of uncertainty early in the year. Christina, a supporter at the watch party, described the team's recovery as a comeback that validated the work put in during the season.

Season ticket holders Enrique and Lauren, who moved to Kansas City recently, said the club has become a central part of their weekly routine. They noted that following the team provided a way to integrate into the local community after their relocation. "We are season ticket members, so we just love being here," Lauren said. "We’re here every weekend, so it felt like the right thing to do to come and support the girls."

Other fans recalled the difficulties the team faced during the first half of the season. Ashley, a fan present at the event, cited the loss of player Vladko as a particularly difficult moment that left the group unsure of the team's direction. "It’s been a roller coaster. Hard start. It was scary losing Vladko. That was a little bit of a hard situation," Ashley said.

Missy Jenkins, the senior vice president of commercial operations for the Current, addressed the crowd, expressing hope that fans would return next week to witness the team win at home.

The Current is scheduled to host Angel City FC, the fifth seed, in the opening round of the NWSL playoffs. The match will take place at CPKC Stadium on Saturday, and tickets are currently on sale.

The winner of the upcoming match will advance further in the NWSL playoffs, continuing the team's postseason campaign in front of a home crowd.
