The Georgia-Florida rivalry has traditionally taken place in Jacksonville, Florida, for nearly a century. This year, the matchup shifted to Atlanta for the first time in 93 seasons due to a $1.4 billion renovation of EverBank Stadium.

The change in venue did not alter the power dynamic on the field. The No. 3 Georgia Bulldogs defeated the No. 17 Florida Gators 27-8 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Saturday. The result marks Georgia's sixth consecutive victory over Florida and its ninth win in the last eleven meetings under head coach Kirby Smart.

Georgia's defense controlled the game from the opening kickoff. The unit held Florida scoreless through the first three quarters. That performance snapped Florida's NCAA-record streak of 481 consecutive games with points. The Gators last failed to score in a three-quarter span during a 30-3 loss to Oregon State in the 2022 Las Vegas Bowl.

Florida's offense struggled to gain traction against the Bulldogs' pressure. The Gators managed only 54 rushing yards. Quarterback Tramell Jones Jr. and Aaron Philo combined for three interceptions. The team was also penalized eight times for 78 yards, which disrupted its rhythm throughout the afternoon.

Georgia capitalized on these errors. The Bulldogs forced four turnovers and recorded four sacks. The defensive effort came two weeks after Georgia suffered a 27-24 home loss to unranked Auburn. Smart noted that his team avoided its own mistakes this time around. "The Dogs didn't beat the Dogs today," Smart said. "They helped us with some of the turnovers they had."

The first half was particularly lopsided. Georgia took a 24-0 lead before halftime. Tailback Nate Frazier opened the scoring with a one-yard run. The Bulldogs added points on a field goal and a one-yard touchdown by Bo Walker. The lead swelled further when linebacker Chris Cole returned a fumble 66 yards for a touchdown.

The fumble occurred after linebacker Quintavius Johnson hit Jones from behind while he prepared to throw. The ball popped loose in the end zone area. Cole scooped up the loose ball and carried it the length of the field to secure the score.

Florida's first points of the game came with 6:59 remaining in the fourth quarter. Jones ran for a two-yard touchdown after a pass interference penalty. He then completed a two-point conversion pass to Dallas Wilson. The final margin was 24-8 at the time, and Georgia added a field goal late in the game to close the gap.

For Florida, the loss was coach Jon Sumrall's first against Georgia. He chose to start Philo, who had missed the previous game with a throwing shoulder injury. The decision did not yield the desired results. Sumrall acknowledged the team's role in its own defeat. "They didn't need our help tonight, but we gave it to them, too," Sumrall said.

The rivalry will move to Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida, next season before returning to Jacksonville in 2028. Smart expressed a preference for the Atlanta venue due to reduced travel time. "If you tell me I can play in Atlanta every year for travel, we'll get home a lot faster," Smart said.
