Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson is slated for thumb surgery following a 36-10 loss to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, a move that could end his 2026 season. Head coach Jesse Minter confirmed the injury requires surgical repair and indicated Jackson will be placed on injured reserve. The procedure stems from an incident on the first offensive snap of the game, where Jackson's right hand collided with Bills pass rusher Greg Rousseau's arm during a throw to Zay Flowers.

The injury occurred just before Jackson took a knee and exited the field, pointing to his thumb in pain. He returned to the sideline for the second half with his thumb splinted. This setback follows a three-game absence due to an ankle injury, meaning the two-time MVP has only played limited action this year. Minter described the situation as a tough deal given the team's current standing.

Backup quarterback Tyler Huntley replaced Jackson but suffered a toe injury in the second quarter. Huntley was sacked by safety Cole Bishop on third-and-8 at the Baltimore 40, fumbling the ball during the hit. The Ravens ruled him out before the third quarter, leaving them without a viable starter. Minter noted that an immediate update on Huntley was unavailable, suggesting Baltimore may need to add a quarterback to the roster before their Thursday night game against Jacksonville.

Emergency quarterback Joe Fagnano, an undrafted rookie from UConn, made his NFL debut on the following series. He completed 10 of 21 passes for 91 yards and one interception. The Ravens dropped to a 4-4 record with this defeat. Their offensive production declined sharply without Jackson, as the team scored 63 fewer points and averaged three fewer yards per play in games featuring Huntley compared to those with the starter.

The Ravens face the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday night at home. With Jackson heading to the operating table and Huntley's status uncertain, the team enters the matchup with significant depth concerns at the quarterback position.
