The Walt Disney Co. and U.K. broadcaster Channel 4 announced a deal that will integrate the public service broadcaster’s main channel and catalog into the Disney+ streaming platform in the U.K. and Ireland. The integration is scheduled to begin in early 2027.

Under the agreement, Disney+ subscribers will gain access to Channel 4’s linear HD broadcast and a on-demand library of scripted and unscripted content. The deal includes hundreds of hours of programming, with specific titles such as the drama Maya, the comedy Stepping Up, and the reality series Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins. These shows will be available on Disney+ at the same time they air on Channel 4, a release model the partners described as day-and-date availability.

The content will appear in a dedicated Channel 4-branded section within the Disney+ app. The interface will match the navigation and user experience of the rest of the streaming service. Subscribers in the U.K. and Ireland will pay no additional fee to access the new channel or shows. Financial terms of the pact were not disclosed.

Karl Holmes, general manager for Disney+ EMEA, characterized the deal as the most ambitious in the region’s history. He noted that Disney+ has grown its subscriber base by 30 percent in EMEA over the last 18 months. Holmes attributed part of that growth to local content partnerships. He stated that the next wave of growth will be driven by local programming.

Priya Dogra, CEO of Channel 4, said the partnership aligns with the broadcaster’s digital-first strategy. She explained that audience habits are shifting toward multiple platforms. The deal allows Channel 4 to reach viewers who may not currently watch the linear channel. Dogra emphasized that Channel 4’s owned and operated services will remain the primary home for the majority of its programming.

The collaboration follows similar agreements between Disney+ and major European broadcasters, including ITV, RAI, ARD, ZDF, SIC, RTVE, and Atresmedia. Disney CEO Josh D’Amaro has positioned Disney+ as the digital centerpiece of the company’s strategy. Adam Smith, chairman of direct-to-consumer at Disney Entertainment, said local broadcaster partnerships are essential for building content libraries and serving fans in specific regions.

Barb data shows a distinct difference in audience demographics between the two platforms. Channel 4 viewers are primarily aged 55 and older, accounting for 63 percent of total viewing hours. In contrast, 39 percent of Disney+ viewers are aged 16 to 34, and 17 percent are aged 4 to 15. Holmes said the deal brings Channel 4’s high-profile shows to Disney+’s younger audience base.
