Colorado State wide receiver Tommy Maher enters Saturday’s matchup against Utah State riding the momentum of his most productive collegiate performance. The Rams face the Aggies at 1:30 p.m. on USA Network, a contest Maher hopes will further cement his role in the offense.

Maher’s path to the starting lineup began before the 2024 season when he arrived at Colorado State as a walk-on from St. John Bosco High School in Bellflower, California. Recruited by former head coach Jay Norvell, Maher did not receive a scholarship offer initially. He appeared in five games during that freshman campaign, recording four receptions for 99 yards and one touchdown. Following the 2024 season, the coaching staff awarded him a full scholarship, a decision Maher described as a surprise in the locker room.

The 2025 season brought new challenges. Maher played in all 12 games, catching 32 passes for 358 yards, while enduring a mid-season coaching change. He chose to remain at the school for his final year, citing his comfort in Fort Collins and the resume of new head coach Jim Mora. His relationship with quarterback Hauss Hejny was interrupted by injuries this fall, as Maher missed time with a hamstring pull and Hejny sat out the team’s third game.

Maher returned to full health by the time the Rams played UTSA. Last Saturday against San Diego State, he demonstrated that recovery. He caught six passes for a career-high 108 yards and scored two touchdowns, both before the halftime whistle. Mora called Maher a hidden gem and a reliable target during the postgame comments.

The offense showed its effectiveness during that San Diego State game, accumulating 549 total yards and scoring 56 points. Maher noted that the unit is clicking and believes the team can perform at a higher level. He plans to continue working to maintain that momentum.

Looking ahead, Maher aims to build on his recent output. The Rams will test his consistency against Utah State, a team they are scheduled to face this weekend. Maher’s injury history this season required a gradual return, but he reports feeling fully prepared for the upcoming contest.

The game marks the next step in Maher’s development from a walk-on to a key contributor. His performance against the Aztecs stands as the statistical high point of his career to date. The Rams will look to replicate that offensive production on the road in Logan, Utah.
