Nebraska voters decide today who will represent the state's 2nd Congressional District. The race pits Democrat Denise Powell against Republican Brinker Harding in a contest that has drawn attention to local economic concerns and foreign policy disagreements.
Both campaigns report they are working until the polls close at 8 p.m. Powell stated her team is contacting every eligible voter they can reach before the deadline. She noted that labor leaders are providing additional support during this final phase of the election.
Harding described the final hours of the campaign as a sprint to the finish line. His volunteers are focusing their efforts on Saunders and Sarpy counties. Powell is concentrating her canvassing operations within Omaha city limits while coordinating a high volume of outbound phone calls.
The candidates differ on how to address the conflict in Iran. Harding linked the war directly to rising gasoline prices, arguing for an immediate end to the conflict. Powell agreed that the war needs to end but emphasized that any resolution must ensure Iran does not acquire a nuclear weapon.
Both teams are encouraging citizens who have not yet voted to visit their polling places. They are prioritizing face-to-face interactions with undecided voters in the hours leading up to the close of voting.
The district encompasses Omaha and surrounding rural areas. The winner will take office after the certification of results following the election.
