San Antonio Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones will appear on television this week to discuss the regulation of artificial intelligence.
She is one of eight guests on an upcoming episode of Breaking the Deadlock. The program airs at 8 p.m. Tuesday on KLRN, the local PBS affiliate. The episode is titled “AI: Who’s in Control?”
UC Davis law professor Aaron Tang will host the discussion. He will present panelists with specific legal and ethical dilemmas. One example involves whether towns should use AI surveillance cameras to identify individuals who may commit crimes in the future.
The show focuses on how data centers and AI are changing local communities. Producers note that residents are dealing with new infrastructure in their neighborhoods. They are also weighing potential job losses from the new technology.
Breaking the Deadlock is produced by WGBH in Boston. The series aims to help people with different views find common ground on pressing issues. Local, state, and federal governments are currently deciding how much to regulate the AI sector.
Viewers can watch the live broadcast on KLRN’s website. Previous episodes are available for free on demand. They are also accessible through the PBS App.
