Nashville secured a 3-2 victory over the Colorado Avalanche on Thursday night, capitalizing on a late-overtime power-play strike by Steven Stamkos.
The game featured a historic milestone for the veteran center. Stamkos' goal marked his 247th career power-play tally, tying him with Luc Robitaille for the fifth-most in NHL history. He also drew the penalty that led to the winning play. Justus Annunen anchored the defense for Nashville, recording 30 saves to earn the win.
The Predators gained momentum from early contributions by two players with recent ties to the Avalanche. Ross Colton scored against his former team, while Vitali Pinchuk recorded his first career goal in the opening period. Pinchuk, who is 24, beat Mackenzie Blackwood with a backhanded shot over the goaltender's shoulder. Blackwood stopped 22 of 25 shots on the night, though he received occasional help from teammates clearing pucks from the crease.
Both teams faced challenges on their respective special teams. Nashville finished 1-for-5 on the power play, while Colorado went 0-for-3. The Avalanche managed to stay competitive with goals from Jaden Schwartz and Parker Kelly, extending their home record to 6-1-2. Nashville now leads the season series against Colorado, 2-0.
The game included several franchise and career milestones. Nathan MacKinnon played in his 967th career contest, tying Adam Foote for the third-most appearances in Avalanche history. Chris MacFarland, the Predators president and general manager, returned to Denver after 11 seasons in the Avalanche front office. The teams will both play on Saturday, with Nashville hosting St. Louis and Colorado receiving Detroit.
