Milwaukee moved within one victory of the championship with a 10-1 win over Tampa Bay in Game 3 on Tuesday.
The Brewers now hold a 3-0 advantage in the best-of-seven series. Milwaukee out-hit Tampa Bay 16 to 1 through eight innings, with the Rays' lone run coming on two hits in the ninth. Tampa Bay scored four runs in the first inning of Game 2 but has not scored since.
Jackson Chourio led off the game with a single and added singles in his second and third at-bats before doubling in the fifth inning, an eight-run frame for Milwaukee. The 22-year-old finished with four hits, two runs and one RBI, and he is batting .571, 8 for 14, in the series. He also stole a base, his third of the World Series, giving him two home runs and three steals across the postseason.
His fifth-inning double left his bat at 99 mph. Chourio is the youngest player to record a four-hit World Series game since Joe Garagiola did it in 1946.
Chourio said he approached each plate appearance with urgency. "Really, I was just taking every at-bat like it could be my last and trying to find any way I could to get on base. Because I know, as long as I get on base, there's guys behind me who could score," he said.
Brewers manager Pat Murphy said the performance matched what he has seen from Chourio. "Nobody's surprised that Jack Jack's doing this. Nobody's surprised," Murphy said. "He's turning into a fine player. He's understanding what it takes, the discipline that it takes. He's coming into his own." Murphy compared Chourio's work habits to Kobe Bryant and noted he also threw out a runner at home plate in Game 2.
Chourio played 127 games this season after an injury and posted 4.9 WAR. He has reached 20 home runs and 20 steals in each of the past three seasons. His contract with Milwaukee runs through 2031, with club options covering 2032 and 2033. Robert Gasser started Game 3 for the Brewers.
Milwaukee has won seven straight games across the NLCS and World Series. The 1976 Reds are the only club to sweep both rounds, though that postseason required only five NLCS games. The Brewers can become the first team to go 8-0 through those two rounds with a Game 4 win.
