A two-year-old girl survived a fatal head-on collision on the Alaska Highway, becoming the sole survivor of an accident that killed her parents last week. Alaska State Troopers reported that 38-year-old Sasha Hart and 41-year-old David Hart died in the crash that occurred on October 19.
Troopers said Sasha Hart was driving a Subaru Forester southbound on the Parks Highway near Trapper Creek. The vehicle crossed the center line and struck a northbound Ford F-250. Their daughter, Paige, was inside the Subaru at the time of the impact.
Shery Elterman-Hart, David Hart’s sister, described the child as a miracle during an interview while holding her. The family noted that the couple had just celebrated their 10-year wedding anniversary before the crash. They lived in Fairbanks, where they combined Sasha’s Jamaican heritage with David’s Alaskan roots.
Elterman-Hart said the couple became close to the family after meeting, noting that Sasha fit in quickly. The family stated the couple enjoyed traveling, watching hockey, and eating together. Katie Ragsdale, another sister of David Hart, described Paige as the center of their lives, saying, “I don’t know if it’s Paige’s house or their house.”
Family members said Paige displays traits of both parents, including her mother’s facial expressions and her father’s preference for sweets. Ragsdale called the child a living piece of her parents still on Earth. According to the family, Paige is recovering quickly after suffering six broken bones in the crash.
The couple was known for their close family ties and shared interests. The accident occurred on a stretch of the Parks Highway, a major route in the region. Troopers confirmed the fatalities and the extent of the damage to the vehicles involved.
