Traffic flow on the northbound side of Interstate 35 in Overland Park has been disrupted since Thursday evening. Multiple lanes remain closed as crews assess the scene of a collision that occurred near 75th Street around 6:30 p.m.
The Kansas Highway Patrol detailed the sequence of events in an update released on October 30. A 1991 Honda Civic was stopped on the right shoulder with its hazard lights active. Cameron D. Harrison, 25, of Shawnee, stood behind the vehicle checking its trunk. A 2024 Subaru Crosstrek traveling on the right shoulder struck both Harrison and the Civic in the rear.
The impact forced the Civic and Harrison into lanes two, three, and four of the northbound highway. The Subaru continued moving until it stopped in the right ditch. Harrison was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Subaru sustained minor injuries.
Authorities previously reported one person with critical injuries and a second with non-life-threatening injuries. The Kansas Highway Patrol is currently investigating the cause of the crash. Motorists on the affected corridor face delays due to the lane closures.
