Naftali Bennett, the former prime minister and chairman of the B'Yachad party, held a rally in Tel Aviv on Saturday night to demand the creation of an investigative commission regarding the October 7 massacre. During the event, a 23-year-old man from Givatayim was arrested for shoving one of Bennett's security detail.
The suspect, who had no prior criminal record, was reportedly under the influence of alcohol. He attempted to breach the security perimeter surrounding Bennett while shouting the slogan "Only Bibi," a phrase supporting Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Guards instructed him to back away, but the man continued to push forward.
The incident escalated when a security guard pushed the man back. The suspect responded by shoving the guard in return. The security team then subdued the man and held him at the scene while waiting for law enforcement. Police officers arrived at the park shortly after, arrested the suspect, and transported him to a local station for questioning.
Bennett served as Israel's prime minister from June 2021 to June 2022. The disruption occurred in the days leading up to the 2026 Knesset elections. Soldiers in the Israel Defense Forces had already cast their ballots at military polling stations earlier in the week, marking the start of the voting process ahead of the general election.
Investigators are currently reviewing the circumstances of the altercation. The rally aimed to pressure the government to establish a commission of inquiry into the failures that preceded the October 7 attacks. No other injuries were reported among the staff or attendees during the brief disturbance.
