Voters in Kansas’ 3rd Congressional District reelected incumbent Democrat Sharice Davids on Tuesday night. The result maintains the existing representation for a district that spans parts of the Kansas City metropolitan area.
Unofficial Associated Press results indicate Davids received over 60 percent of the vote. She defeated Republican challenger Eric Jenkins, who had advanced from the GOP primary. Libertarian candidate Steven Hohe also appeared on the ballot for this race.
Davids, a resident of Roeland Park, first won this seat in 2018. She previously secured her spot in the general election by defeating Sarah Preu in the August Democratic primary. This victory marks her fifth term in the U.S. House of Representatives.
The district includes the entirety of Johnson, Miami, Franklin, and Anderson counties. It also encompasses portions of Wyandotte County. Major municipalities within the district include Overland Park, Olathe, Lenexa, Shawnee, Leawood, Gardner, and Kansas City, Kansas.
Davids addressed the outcome in a written release. She stated that Kansans wanted leadership focused on fighting corruption and lowering costs for families. She described serving the district as the absolute honor of her life and expressed readiness to continue working across the aisle in Washington.
Jenkins had positioned himself as a challenger seeking to take the seat from the incumbent. The election concludes the campaign cycle for this specific congressional race in the state of Kansas.
