Johnson County residents now interact with a single body for local land use decisions. The East Consolidated Zoning Board and the West Consolidated Zoning Board ceased to exist as separate entities on May 1, 2026. They merged to form one Consolidated Zoning Board. This change unified the handling of zoning, land use, and township development across the county.

The new board holds public hearings on the third Wednesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. Sessions take place in the Board Hearing Room on the third floor of the County Administration Building at 111 S. Cherry St. in Olathe. The county notes that meetings are cancelled if no agenda items are pending. Residents can join virtually via Zoom. The most recent virtual session listed a Webinar ID of 846 6655 3657 with a passcode of 335386.

The board reviews site plans for new businesses and requests for rezoning or special property uses. It also considers applications to subdivide land into lots. Following a hearing, the board makes recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners. Commissioners vote on these recommendations at their own scheduled meetings.

The county lists several applications for the upcoming cycle. A hearing is set for November 4, 2026. The corresponding Board of County Commissioners meeting is scheduled for December 3, 2026. The application deadline for that cycle was September 11, 2026. A previous cycle saw a hearing on October 7, 2026, with a deadline of August 14, 2026.

In the June 2026 cycle, the board reviewed seven specific applications. These included a Conditional Use Permit at 14150 W 175th St. and an Accessory Dwelling Unit Permit at 6100 W 183rd St. The agenda also covered development plans for 25705 W 159th St. and 15710 W 183rd St. The board considered a final plat at 4800 W 199th St. and a conditional use permit at 7345 W 191st St. The applicant for the 14150 W 175th St. application requested to continue the matter to the August 5, 2026 meeting.

Residents seeking records from past meetings can contact planning staff at planner@jocogov.org or by phone at 913-715-2200. These records include agendas, applications, staff reports, and meeting minutes. Individuals requiring sign language interpretation or special accommodations must contact the office at least two business days before a meeting.

The county provides Zoom instructions for remote attendees. Each meeting listing includes a specific Webinar ID and a passcode. The passcode for the June, August, September, and October 2026 meetings was 335386. The board’s website directs users to check for cancellations or updates before attending.
