WYDOT Sends Wildlife Crash Alerts to 511 Subscribers
Wyoming drivers will now receive warnings about animal-vehicle collisions and migration hotspots through their existing travel notification subscriptions.

Wyoming drivers subscribed to the state’s 511 Notify system will now receive alerts for wildlife migration patterns and recent animal-vehicle crashes.
The Wyoming Department of Transportation, or WYDOT, added these notifications to help motorists stay alert in areas with frequent wildlife activity. The system uses historical crash data to identify high-risk highway corridors during peak migration periods. Drivers traveling through these zones receive warnings to slow down and watch for animals.
The alerts also trigger when an animal-vehicle crash is reported nearby. WYDOT notes that other animals may remain in the area after an initial collision, making immediate warnings necessary for drivers in that vicinity.
These wildlife alerts are automatically included for existing 511 Notify subscribers. Drivers who already receive road condition, closure, and travel notifications do not need to update their subscriptions or sign up for additional services.
WYDOT states the goal is to improve awareness and reduce wildlife-related crashes on state highways. The change applies to all current users of the notification service without requiring any action from the driver.
