Polls are open across New Mexico on Tuesday, Nov. 3. Voters in Bernalillo County already submitted approximately 173,000 ballots as of Monday morning, according to the county clerk’s office. The state is bracing for a heavy turnout as residents head to 74 designated voting locations within the county.
Early voting participation has climbed compared to recent cycles. In the 2022 midterm election, about 29.7% of voters cast ballots early in person. This figure increased to 31% during the current early voting period. County Clerk Michelle Kavanaugh described the early period as successful, citing the active political dialogue occurring within the state and nationally.
Kavanaugh advised voters to review their sample ballots before leaving home because this year’s ballot is longer. Individuals who did not register for early voting can still register on Election Day. To cast a ballot, voters must bring a photo ID and mail that displays their name and current address. The clerk noted that voting sites located in schools are typically less crowded than other locations.
Political parties are hosting watch parties to monitor results. The state Republican Party and gubernatorial candidate Gregg Hull are holding an event at the Hotel Albuquerque in Old Town. The state Democratic Party and candidate Deb Haaland are hosting their gathering at the Route 66 Casino Hotel west of Albuquerque. Both events begin at 5 p.m.
KOB 4 will provide live coverage on its streaming channel immediately after the polls close. The network’s 10 p.m. newscast will break down results for the governor’s race, the U.S. Senate race, and the House of Representatives contests.
