New Mexico voting proceeds smoothly

New Mexico Election Day is proceeding without major incidents as polls remain open until 7 p.m. Monday. State officials confirmed that voting has begun on a steady pace across the state.

Lindsey Bachman, a spokesperson for the Secretary of State’s office, reported late Monday morning that the state had nothing major to report. She described the start of Election Day as smooth and noted that voting levels appear steady.

All statewide offices, including the governorship, are on the ballot. Prior to Monday, 456,726 voters had already cast ballots through early and absentee methods. This total exceeds the number recorded four years ago by more than 17,000 votes.

Secretary of State data shows a shift in party participation compared to 2022. Approximately 40.7% of registered Democrats have voted, while the figure for registered Republicans stands at roughly 31.8%. Independents have also voted at a higher rate than in the previous cycle.

Bachman addressed national concerns regarding potential voter intimidation by federal agents. She stated that the state has received no reports of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement or other federal entities interfering with the process.

Eligible voters may register or update their registration and cast ballots at their County Clerk’s office or any polling location within their county. The polls will close at 7 p.m. on Monday.
